Whether you wish to treat yourself to a few new wardrobe items, or make use of some existing outfits- this guide should help you put together the perfect set of outfits. Here are seven outfit ideas for your boudoir shoot:

Lingerie

Nothing says boudoir like a stunning set of lingerie. While it may seem like an obvious choice, there are many different styles of lingerie out there that can completely change the mood of the photoshoot. Whether you prefer delicate white lace, a classic black set or a bold red- lingerie allows you to showcase your curves in all the right places. Consider different styles of lingerie such as a matching bra and panty set, a lace up corset or a silky teddy.

Cosy Jumper

For a cosy ‘girl next door’ vibe, consider incorporating a soft and oversized jumper into your boudoir shoot. Pair it with a set of bonds undies, thigh high socks or leggings for a playful look. For this type of look, I would play with a softer, more natural makeup and hair style to keep it casual. Snuggle up on plush blankets or an armchair for a relaxing shot that captures the authentic side of you.

Button Down Shirt

An oversized button down shirt can be a surprisingly sexy option for boudoir photography. Similar to the oversized jumper, it provides a more casual and relaxed look than traditional lingerie. Wear it over some sexy lingerie, a set of casual Calvin Kleins or Bonds- or nothing at all! You can wear the shirt unbuttoned or off the shoulder for a more flirty and sexy look. With the right backlighting, you can even use the shirt to create a silhouette to really show off your stunning curves.

Wedding Veil

For many women, a bridal boudoir photoshoot is a perfect way to celebrate this special moment in their life. A bridal veil is a bridal boudoir must-have. They symbolise the meaning if this occasion, but also create an array of artistic options. A bridal veil creates a feeling of allure, especially the way it caresses the silhouette of your body. Whether it’s a waist length veil or a cathedral length one, a veil adds a sense of beautiful romance to your photos.

Slip Nighty

A slip nighty is a timeless choice for a boudoir shoot. Slip nighties offer a figure skimming silhouette that is both classic and feminine. Opt for luxurious fabrics like satin or silk and accessorise with a matching gown and delicate jewellery. With a sensual slip, you’ll feel like an actress on the set of an old Hollywood glamour film.

Jeans and a Crop Top

For a more casual vibe, consider a pair of jeans and a simple crop top or casual bra for your boudoir shoot. The best part about this look is that you can likely use items of clothing you already own, making this a very budget friendly option. Choosing the right high waisted jeans that accentuate your curves and pair them with a lacy for sheer crop top for a splash of sexiness. This style offers a relaxed and casual look, while having an undertone of playfulness about it.

Sheer Robe

For an elegant and classic look, consider wearing a sheer robe as a statement piece for your boudoir shoot. Choose a robe with delicate lacing for a touch of elegance and drape it over your lingerie or over your bare skin. A sheer robe adds a level of femininity and allure to your photos. The robe can be a short, knee length type or for something a bit more glamorous, opt for a floor length style.

Maternity Photoshoot in Torquay

As the sun dips low over the horizon, casting golden light across the landscape, there’s a calming atmosphere that unfolds on the beaches of Torquay.

At the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, Torquay offers a stunning backdrop for photoshoot. With its rugged coastal beauty and pristine waters, the compositional opportunities were endless for Gretel and Mitch’s maternity photoshoot. On this particular day, we were lucky to have a salty sea breeze creating a beautiful, hazy sea fog over the beach. We opted for a photoshoot at Jan Juc, utilising the beautiful west-facing cliffs as our backdrop that were softly diffused with backlighting.

For the outfit, Gretel opted for simple, yet elegant dresses of white and green, that complemented perfectly with the palette of the surrounds. An oversized beach hat elevated the style ever so slightly, to create a more candid and authentic atmosphere to the beach maternity photoshoot.

I aim for minimal direction for posing couples, with my main aim to capture the chemistry and raw emotion between the two. I always ensure I set the couple up in the correct orientation to the light and background, ensuring that they have enough direction to guide them between poses, but apart from that- I leave the smaller interactions up to them. Whether it’s a stolen glance or a playful laugh, every moment is captured and preserved for many years to come.

We alternated between a few different scenic backgrounds. From the vast coastline, to the secluded alcoves and beach shrub- Jan Juc beach offered a plethora of photographic opportunities. These memories captured during the beachside maternity photoshoot serve and a reminder of the love they shared during this special journey they embarked upon forever.

Welcoming a new life into the world is such an exciting, yet daunting experience. A maternity photoshoot is a great way to capture all the emotions and anticipation of this fleeting moment in time. One of the most common questions I get asked when for maternity shoots is ‘what should I wear?’

In this blog, we’ll explore a range of maternity dress ideas, including options for every price point, as well as the convenient option of hiring a maternity dress.

Choosing a Maternity Dress

When choosing a dress to wear for a maternity shoot, the most important thing to consider is if you feel comfortable. Pregnancy is already enough of a strain on your body, so ensure you don’t compound that with an outfit that is tight, or makes you feel hot. Many women opt for feminine, loose flowing dresses for a maternity shoot. Keep in mind that you don’t need to buy a ‘maternity’ dress for a photoshoot. You can simply buy a normal dress that has the ability to adjust it’s waist size- that way you can wear it again even when you’re not pregnant (which is better value for money).

Deciding on a style of maternity dress will depend on the type of photoshoot and location. Here are a few different styles of maternity dresses, including a few options at different price points.

Maxi Maternity Dress

Maxi dresses are one of the most popular options for a maternity shoot. Due to their flowing, feminine style- I tend to find maxi dresses work exceptionally well for beach maternity shoots. The floor length design provides ample coverage, while allowing freedom of movement for posing. Opt for breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen, to help regulate your body temperature, especially during an outdoor shoot.

Ensure your empire waist dress has a stretchy waistband and fabrics to accomodate your growing belly.

A sheer maternity dress is a popular choice for a beach or garden photoshoot. They are usually worn over a bikini or underwear. While these can be bit more revealing for some, they are incredibly elegant and feminine and proudly show off your baby bump. I recommend a simple bikini in the colour of white or black (depending on the colour of your dress). Some when opt to wear nothing at all underneath, to really show off the raw and empowering process of transitioning into motherhood.

Sequin Maternity Dress

They work well for a studio shoot, where the high end lighting can amplify the shine of the sequins perfectly. You can also consider a sequin dress for an outdoor shoot, as shown in the photos below.

A loose fitting dress with an adjustable waist will work perfectly fine and will be versatile enough to wear beyond pregnancy as well!

When booking a boudoir photoshoot, one of the first questions your photographer will ask is for the style of photoshoot or the overall theme you’re trying to achieve. Usually this is provided by a ‘mood board’, which is a collection of images that can be created on image sites like Pinterest. But how do you ever come up with ideas to type into the search bar of Pinterest in the first place? I’ve come up with seven style ideas to help get the creative juices flowing for your next boudoir photoshoot.

Classic Boudoir Style

The most common type of boudoir photoshoot is a classic boudoir styled shoot. This is probably the first image that comes to mind when you think of ‘boudoir photography’. Think: black lingerie, suspender belt, stockings and heels. It’s a very timeless and classic look and these photos will remain as relevant in years to come as they are today. The lighting can be a mix of both flash and natural light, a combinations that aims to give an eye catching image. Poses are more seductive, yet still have a very candid and feminine feel about them.

Wedding Boudoir Style

Wedding boudoir photography is a boudoir shoot that some women do before their wedding day- either as a gift for their husband, or purely for a bit of self indulgence. The style is usually based around traditional wedding attire, and is generally a much softer and feminine look than classic boudoir photography. The colour pallet of the outfit is generally white- with soft lingerie, sheer dresses and floral accessories to elevate the style. Often veils and garters can be used to add a touch of elegance to the outfit. The lighting is almost always a diffused natural light, with a focus on always keeping the atmosphere soft and feminine.

Valentines Day Boudoir Style

Valentines day is a perfect excuse to give your lover a unique and special gift of you. A valentines day theme is super fun- and you can be as creative as you want.

With the main colour palette of Valentines day being red, consider delicate lace lingerie in shades of red, pink, or crimson to evoke the theme of passion and love. You can have fun with accessories: with red roses or big cuddly teddy bears.

The poses are playful and intimate, that capture the essence of this special day. Experiment with a variety of looks- from sweet and tender moments to sultry and seductive expressions. Whether cuddling up with plush pillows or sharing a loving gaze with the camera, the overall mood is to capture the emotions you share of your lover.

Beach Chick Style

We are starting to break out of what a ‘traditional’ boudoir photoshoot is with the theme of a beach shoot. Technically, a boudoir photo is taken in a woman’s private room or dresser, but I prefer to think of it more as a way of taking embracing a woman’s confidence and self lover- no matter where that is.

A beach shoot is one of my personal favourite styles of photoshoots. I may be biased since I live in Geelong, the gateway to some of Australia’s most stunning beaches. There’s something raw and natural about a beach photoshoot that can’t quite be captured in an indoor setting. Outfit wise: a simply bikini, one piece or long sleeve would suit this style perfectly. Try not to overdo it with the swimwear- stick of something simple and neutral coloured. A sheer dress can also create some beautiful feminine photos as it flows in the wind. Props such as surf boards, oversized beach bags and straw hats work wonders for a beach photoshoot.

Dominatrix Style

A dominatrix styled photoshoot draws inspiration from the world of BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, and Masochism) and dominatrix culture. The imagery is based around the woman being a dominant figure. The outfit styling includes lots of leather, latex and usually thigh high boots- generally all in the colour black. This is often accessorised with dominatrix props like cuffs, whips and jewellery like neck chokers. The lighting is usually a lot more dramatic than other, more feminine styles of boudoir and the backdrop is usually dark. Posing is quite empowering and dominant, with photographed upward to create a figure of authority.

Enchanted Forest Boudoir Style

An enchanted forest theme is all about lush greenery, warm sunlight filtering through the leaves and the serene ambience of nature. The style is natural and earthy. For attire, delicate earthy toned bodysuits and lingerie work wonders for this type of shoot, as well as flowing chiffon robes to cover you. Using vintage books and floral crowns complement the image style perfectly. A soft and dreamy pose will work well amongst the natural background of the forest. If you can find a log or tree to lead against, this can evoke a sense of grace that brings this imagery to the next level.

Poolside Glamour Boudoir

If you’re after a bit of summer-babe vibe with a touch of luxury, a poolside photoshoot is perfect for you. This can be taken at any resort of hotel, most of the time they won’t mind if you’re taking pictures for personal use. Opt for a quieter time of the day like the early mornings, otherwise you’ll run the risk of other pool goers in the background of your shot.

For attire, a glamorous swimsuit and elegant sarong create a beautiful combination. Accessorise your outfit with statement jewellery pieces, hats and luxe sunglasses. Perhaps even order a cocktail from the bar to add some flair to your photos. If you’re on the paler side (like me), consider using a spray on tan- but ensure it’s done as close to the shoot day as possible to ensure it doesn’t go blotchy!

Finding a location for your boudoir photoshoot can be incredibly daunting, albeit exciting. While many boudoir photographers offer a fixed studio space, I prefer to tailor my location depending on the style of shoot, keeping the imagery dynamic and engaging.

Peerspace offers an incredible selection of studios, for all styles and budgets. Here are some of my favourite photoshoot locations in Melbourne for Boudoir Photography.

Apartment 26 by Anton Venoir Interiors, Prahran

This location is ideal for a boudoir photoshoot that is all about high class luxury.

There are a myriad of photo opportunities in this photo studio. The centrepiece of this hotel is the plush sitting area, with its sumptuous velvet sofas and ornately carved coffee tables. You will find this is the best setting for intimate moments of relaxation and contemplation. The bedroom creates an aura of romance, which invites you to strike a pose of effortless glamour and the headboard of the bed frames a stunning backdrop, painting a photo of old-world romance and refinement.

Often labeled “Petit Palais”, a private salon, where guests are transported to Paris to immerse in 18th century French culture, a birthplace for boudoir photography.

Music has the power to enhance and complement the perception of beauty in you. The focal point in this hotel is the piano, which sits against a backdrop of natural light. Melbourne offers a wonderful selection of hotels that make an ideal location for a boudoir photoshoot. Whether you’re after something more classy and sophisticated or if you prefer that warm, old world charm- there is something for everyone.

Here are my favourite hotels in Melbourne for a boudoir photoshoot.

The Lyall Hotel and Spa.

The Lyall Hotel evokes a unique sense of place, providing grand hotel services and design on an intimate scale. This privately owned five-star Hoel offers a stunning blend of style and intimate luxury, nestled in the upscale suburb of South Yarra. It is presented with a unique blend of urban sophistication and modern luxury to ensure your photographs excite.

Each floor or the hotel includes an art gallery from local French artist; Thierry B, as well as open fireplaces and guest rooms designed with a contemporary-oriental aesthetic. There are 43 colourful rooms, tailored for the intimate adventurer. It really is the perfect spot to kick off your heels, or slip on a boutique garment. Just outside this intimate hotel you can wander the art-filled arcades tat are rich with the aroma of roasted coffee. The standard Studio rooms are light and bright, with curved windows that make them seem much bigger than they are. Then there are the suites, which get progressively louder as they increase in size. Before becoming a portrait and boudoir photographer, I started out in the industry photographing landscapes and nature from beautiful places around the world. While I love the serenity and beauty of the outdoors, particularly for intimate photography, I understand that a closed room can feel a lot more safe and relaxed than the open air.

For an intimate photo shoot in Sydney, I suggest that you consider hotels with stylish and cozy atmospheres that provide a sense of privacy. Here are my favourite hotels in Sydney for a boudoir photoshoot.

Top Hotel Locations for a Boudoir Photoshoot in Melbourne

So, you’ve booked a boudoir photographer, you’ve found a hairstylist and makeup artist and you’ve also managed to pick out an array of stunning outfits to wear. Now to decide on the perfect location for a memorable boudoir shoot. Melbourne offers an array of picture perfect backdrops. Whether you’re after something more classy, or a bit more edgy- here are my top five boudoir photoshoot locations in Melbourne,

Hotel Windsor

Located in the heart of Melbourne, the Hotel Windsor is an iconic luxury hotel. With its classic English architecture, soft furnishings and large windows with beautiful natural light, it’s a location that is both classy and romantic.

The Royal Suite is their top of the range room with an unparalleled luxurious interior design- featuring antique ornaments, a fireplace and tall windows with magnificent views overlooking Spring Street and the Treasury Gardens. The Royal Suite is truly a special step into Melbourne’s past.

The variety of luxurious furnishings such as the clawfoot bath and chaise provide an array of unique boudoir photoshoot opportunities. The draped windows are perfect for creating a diffuse light to create soft, natural image.

Hotel Chadstone

The Hotel Chadstone by Sofitel is one of Melbourne’s newest hotels. Located just 20 minutes from the CBD, it services as an ideal boudoir photoshoot location. Since it’s located at Chadstone Shopping centre, there is ample free parking available- which is very convenient when lugging bags full of outfits and beauty products around (plus you won’t get stung with a horrendous $70 fee like many places in Melbourne).

I particularly love the King Suite Room, as it boasts a wonderful panoramic view through its large, floor-to-ceiling windows. These large windows also provide fantastic natural light for a soft, feminine boudoir style photograph. Each room type has a slightly different style, but the king suite has these lovely modern blush tones on the interior which work well from a stylistic point of view.

The Langham

The Langham is nestled amongst the vibrant Southbank Promenade, offering stunning views of the city and the Yarra. This creates the perfect backdrop for a vibrant and intimate photoshoot. The hotel’s classic styled rooms and suites provide a range of exquisite settings for a boudoir set. The natural, greenish hues of each room are quite soft on the eye, and don’t create an overly distracting background.

The bathroom of each Langham room is luxurious, with its marble vanities and old fashioned tap ware. This can create a beautiful set for boudoir shots by using the large mirror and traditional bathtub for a variety of interesting compositions.

As well as its stunning rooms, the Langham also boasts a marvellous foyer area. As soon as you step inside, you are welcomed with an elegant double staircase with a fountain in the centre. This area can work well for glamour or lifestyle photography. The Langham’s interior design effortlessly captures timeless charm and creates an ambiance of refined sophistication, ensuring eye catching backdrop for a boudoir photoshoot.
