What Is Boudoir Photography?
Boudoir photography is derived from the French term, meaning a woman’s private dressing room or bedroom. Boudoir photoshoots are typically sensual and intimate in nature. They are a way for women to explore their more intimate side of themselves, and empower themselves through soft and emotive imagery.
While traditional boudoir photography is typically done in a private, indoor setting- these days it can also encompass a more natural, outdoor environment as well.
Boudoir photography isn’t just for models- it’s for everyone!
If you’re on a path of path of self discovery or simply need a confidence boost- a boudoir session is the very thing you may be looking for. While it can be daunting stripping down in front of a camera, we share a very open and trusting environment. Boudoir photoshoots don’t even need to be done in lingerie- a slip nighty or flowing dress are beautifully elegant for a boudoir session.

Where Do Boudoir Sessions Take Place?
While many boudoir photographers offer a fixed studio space, I prefer to tailor my location depending on the style of the shoot- to keep my imagery dynamic and exciting.

Outdoors
Natural lighting offers a style that is fun and feminine- a step away from traditional boudoir photography.
My personal favourite location for boudoir photography is outdoors. I live in the Surf Coast, surrounded by some of the most picturesque beaches in the world. As a local, I know all the private beaches that are perfect for intimate photoshoots.
Luxury Studio
Melbourne offers a wondrous variety of private studios.
Whether it’s a warehouse studio in Fitzroy or a French styled farmhouse in Daylesford- the stylistic opportunities are endless.
Peerspace is my favourite platform for finding studios, with hundreds available all over Melbourne. The backdrop of an image make as a huge different to the overall emotive character of the image.
Your Home
There’s no place like home.
My studio is 100% portable, meaning I can photograph you in the comfort of you own home. I have a variety of backdrops and lighting that can work with any home- no matter how big or small. If you have a nice garden or some interior decoration you’d like to show off- I can seamlessly blend in these locations with our boudoir session.

What Do I Wear For My Boudoir Shoot?
Choosing outfits for your intimate boudoir shoot can be the most daunting step of the process.
The first thing to consider when choosing an outfit is to consider the theme of your photoshoot. Pinterest is a great tool for gathering images to create a mood board for your boudoir photoshoot. Start with typing in search terms like ‘boudoir photoshoot’ and look for images that you like. You can then narrow down your search terms further based on these images to come up with a concept for your shoot.
Pay close attention to the style of outfits the women are wearing, as well as any accessories they use such as hats or baskets.
Keep in mind that while boudoir photography is often associated with lingerie- you don’t have to wear lingerie at all.
The idea of boudoir photography is to wear whatever makes you feel confident and sexy- whether that’s wearing a full length dress or nothing at all!
Where Can I Buy Boudoir Outfits?
A boudoir photoshoot is a good excuse to treat yourself to a few new outfits! Depending on your budget and the outfit style you’re looking for, there are plenty of retail options out there.
Shein is a great place to start for those looking to buy a variety of fun outfits on a budget. Their stylistic options are huge, and while their quality isn’t always the best- for a single use photoshoot, it’s perfectly acceptable. As they are an online retailer with quality being ‘hit and miss’, ensure you make your purchases well in advance before your photoshoot in case you need to exchange sizes. I’ve personally used Shein a lot, and you can find some real hidden gems.
For those seeking something on the higher end side, perhaps an outfit that will last more than a few uses (sorry Shein), I’d recommend Honey Birdette and Bras and Things. They both have a great range of higher quality lingerie in a variety of fun and sexy colours. They cater to a wide range of body types, giving women of all sizes a boost of body confidence.
What About Hair and Make-up?
Hair and makeup is an optional extra for all my boudoir photoshoots.
All women should be able to build their confidence through a boudoir photoshoot with any budget, so I offer the option for you to do your own hair and makeup, or I have a list of trusted hair and makeup artists in Melbourne that I can organise for you.
My makeup artists are skilled in creating a variety of looks- from a natural glow to full glam, to ensure it blends seamlessly with my photography style.
